Glasfaser-Tarife im Vergleich für FTTH/FTTB
Glasfaser-Internet (auch FTTH oder FTTB genannt) ist in vielen Orten inzwischen kein Exot mehr. Immer mehr – vor allem regionale und lokale – Internetanbieter sorgen für einen raschen Ausbau des schnellen Internets mit Glasfaser. Dabei liegen die Glasfaser-Tarife preislich oft gar nicht so sehr über denen mit herkömmlichen Technologien (DSL oder Kabelinternet).
Durch die meist höheren Geschwindigkeiten von Glasfaseranschlüssen ist es sinnvoll, auch einen entsprechenden Router zu nutzen. Wenn es sich um einen FTTH-Anschluss (Fiber to the Home) handelt, das Glasfaserkabel also bis unmittelbar in die Wohnung liegt, muss der Router entsprechend auch ein FTTH-Router sein. Empfehlenswert ist dabei die Fritz!Box-Modelle 5530 oder 5590. Diese haben gleich ein Glasfaser-Modem mit eingebaut.
Für viele Glasfaser-Anschlüsse reichen jedoch auch einfach gigabitfähige Router aus. Hierbei sind die LAN-Anschlüsse am Router selbst in der Lage, Geschwindigkeiten ab 1 GBit/s zu verarbeiten. Voraussetzung für die Nutzung eine solchen Routers ist jedoch, dass ein Glasfasermodem vorgeschaltet wird. Die Anbieter liefern dieses Modem vor der Schaltung des Anschlusses an ihre Kunden.
